Brains Program Associate
Speculative Technologies is looking at hiring someone for a pretty unique role:
Half of your time would be handling basic project management for the Brains Accelerator: tracking things, following up with people, making schedules that work, etc. Some of your time would be spent learning about what it takes to develop an ambitious R&D program along with the Brains fellows. The rest of your time would be doing special projects with Speculative Technologies’ CEO: everything from improving our software infrastructure to doing deep dives on technology case studies and gathering data on obscure manufacturing processes.
This job requires a rare combination of skills: the extreme attention to detail, punctuality, and willingness to do rote things of a junior project manager combined with the taste, agency and curiosity to do unsupervised exploratory work. In this role, you will learn the basics of project and community management (including a lot of scheduling and emailing and nagging people productively) and will get to learn a ton alongside Brains Fellows and to work with people building some of the coolest technology in the world. The job is explicitly meant to be temporary: two years at most — we want people who want to go on to do awesome things.
A good applicant:
- Is probably fresh out of an undergrad degree in a physical engineering discipline (or science that made them build things).
- Has both people and technical skills.
- Has used project management skills and software either in a work setting or in their personal life. (Anything from Asana to Google Sheets counts!)
- Is good at communicating via writing.
A great applicant:
- Has worked on a serious technical project that involved interacting with people outside of their org: project teams like SAE racing or iGem are good examples of this.
- Can write useful scripts (ideally in python) and do some web development as well.
- Is interested in a career in non-traditional science and engineering.
- Is experienced at using LLMs for writing and research.
Salary:$80,000/year plus additional health insurance allowance.
The job is fully remote with occasional travel for team onsites and program-related events.
All applicants must already have permission to work for any employer in the United States; unfortunately we cannot sponsor visas for this position.
Please apply for this position by emailing your resume to info@spec.tech with the subject heading “Brains Program Associate” and a paragraph explaining your interest in this position.
